Synthesia does not publish its interview stages. Product marketing is a head of product marketing, a principal for the video studio, and a first seat for the Interactive Avatar API. The bar favors people who ship work before it is polished and who already use agents in their own job.

Synthesia builds product marketing around three senior seats, a Head of Product Marketing, a principal for its core video studio, and the first PMM for its Interactive Avatar API. It doesn't publish its interview stages. The bar favors people who ship work at 60 to 70 percent and who already automate parts of their job with agents. Expect to position the move from AI video to avatars people can talk to.

## Practice questions

- **Synthesia is moving from videos people watch to avatars people talk to. Write the platform narrative that holds both.** At Synthesia, the head of product marketing owns the story for this shift. Interviewers want a single top-line story that keeps the video business, which brings in the revenue, while making room for interactive avatars and the API.
- **HeyGen pitches speed and creators, while Synthesia pitches governance and enterprise teams. Where does that line blur, and what do you do about it?** Synthesia's own comparison page draws the contrast around security certifications, brand control, and support. The question tests whether you can hold a position when a rival starts selling to the same enterprise buyer.
- **You are the first PMM for the Interactive Avatar API. What do you ship in your first 60 days to win developers?** The API seat starts without a playbook, and Synthesia wants someone who has called endpoints and wired up a webhook. A strong answer names a small developer audience, a quickstart, and a channel, and shows you know how developers evaluate an API.
- **A buyer in HR asks whether an avatar of her CEO could be misused. How does product marketing answer, and what proof do you show?** Synthesia requires on-camera consent for personal avatars, labels AI content with C2PA credentials, and says 10 percent of its team works on AI safety and ethics. This probes whether you can make trust part of the pitch instead of a legal footnote.
- **Roleplay Sessions lets employees practice sales calls with an avatar. Build the launch for a sales enablement leader.** Synthesia launched Roleplay Sessions in July 2026 with early customer results. The question tests whether you can sell to a new buyer inside accounts that bought Synthesia for training videos.
- **Half of Synthesia's revenue now comes from the US and the company just opened a larger New York office. What changes in the positioning for US buyers?** Synthesia says US customers have moved from learning and development to strategy communication, sales onboarding, and product content. Interviewers want to hear how you would follow that shift with messaging and proof.
- **Show us one part of your own PMM work that you have automated with an agent. What broke the first time?** Synthesia puts building and deploying agents first on its list for product marketing leadership. A specific example with its failures shows experience, and a description of what agents could do suggests you haven't built one.

## What Synthesia says about its hiring, and what it doesn’t

Synthesia doesn't publish its interview stages for any role. Nothing on its careers site lists the rounds for product marketing, whether there is a take-home, or how long the process takes.

Employee reviews exist on Glassdoor, where Synthesia's careers page cites a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from more than 135 reviews. Detailed interview reports for marketing roles are hard to find, and none are cited here. Treat any stage list you see online as unconfirmed.

Given that, use the recruiter call well. Ask how many rounds there are and who runs them, whether there is a written or presentation exercise, and whether you would meet the product leaders for studio, interactive, or the API. For senior roles, also ask whether you will meet the CEO or other founders. The [presentation round guide](https://mokk.ai/guides/pmm-presentation-round) and the [take-home guide](https://mokk.ai/guides/pmm-take-home-assignment) cover the two formats most likely to appear.

## Synthesia’s three senior PMM seats

Synthesia is rebuilding product marketing around its new products, with three senior seats at the center.

Open product marketing roles at Synthesia
| Role | Location | What it owns | What it asks for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Head of Product Marketing | London or New York, hybrid | Positioning and launches across video, interactive avatars, and the API, with a team of five PMMs | Building agents for your own PMM work, leading a product portfolio, and company-level narrative |
| Principal PMM, core product | London, hybrid | The studio and video creation experience, launches, enablement, and competitive positioning | 10 or more years in B2B SaaS, 6 or more in product marketing leadership |
| Principal PMM, API | London or New York, hybrid | The go-to-market for the Interactive Avatar API, built from scratch | Hands-on API experience, daily use of AI video tools, and developer or growth marketing |

Product marketing works with product, engineering, sales, and customer teams. Synthesia also has a separate competitive intelligence function and a dedicated market intelligence team, so you won't build research from zero.

The go-to-market motion is mostly enterprise. Synthesia says more than 90 percent of the Fortune 100 are customers, and the roles talk about sales cycles, enablement, and closing deals faster. The API seat is the exception, because it has to reach developers with a product-led motion inside a sales-led company. If that's your seat, bring developer marketing examples.

## Synthesia in 2026, from AI video to avatars that talk back

Synthesia was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in London. Its core product, Synthesia Studio, turns a script into a video with an AI avatar and no camera or crew. It passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue in April 2025, when Adobe Ventures also invested. In January 2026 it raised $200 million at a $4 billion valuation, led by GV, and said the money would go toward conversational agents for workplace learning.

### Launches to know

- **Assistant and Express-3 (July 2026).** An assistant that goes from a prompt or document to an on-brand video, and a new avatar model with better gestures and lip sync. Synthesia said both were available on all plans.
- **Interactive Avatar API (July 2026).** Real-time, lip-synced avatars that companies can build into their own products, with their own language models and speech providers. It launched for Enterprise customers, with a managed no-code version planned for October 2026.
- **Roleplay Sessions (July 2026).** Practice conversations with avatars for sales, management, and support training, with scoring and manager dashboards.
- **New York expansion (September 2026).** A 50,000 square foot office in the Flatiron District. Synthesia said about half its revenue comes from the US and that net revenue retention is 140 percent.

The competitive frame to know is HeyGen. Synthesia's own comparison page positions it for the teams behind video programs, with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 42001 certifications, brand controls, and live support. It casts HeyGen as a tool for individual creators. Expect interviewers to test whether you believe that line and can defend it.

Trust is part of the product story. Synthesia requires verified on-camera consent for personal avatars, can attach C2PA content credentials and AI labels to videos, and signed the EU's Article 50 code of practice on labeling AI content.

## How Synthesia works and what it expects from PMMs

Synthesia's careers page names fast shipping, ownership, clear progression, and an annual learning budget. It says the company hires in more than 26 countries, has more than 900 employees, and that about 80 percent of staff at the London office are immigrants. Its about page describes a people-first approach to AI.

For product marketing, Synthesia gets more specific. It looks for people who want a blank slate, write with conviction, and can defend a point of view in a room with skeptics. It expects you to ship at 60 to 70 percent, hand off for refinement, and keep moving, and its product marketing leadership puts building and deploying agents first.

- **Conviction.** Bring a positioning choice you made that others disagreed with, and how you held it or changed it.
- **Shipping at 60 to 70 percent.** Bring a launch where you released early, learned, and improved. Say what you left unfinished and why.
- **Hands-on AI.** Bring a workflow you have automated. Show the prompt or agent, the output, and the check you run before using it.

The [messaging and positioning questions](https://mokk.ai/pmm-questions/messaging-positioning) are a good way to practice defending a view under pushback.

## A positioning exercise to do before a Synthesia loop

The best preparation is to draft the story Synthesia's product marketers will own. Spend a few hours on it, then turn it into a ten-minute talk.

1. **Use the product.** Make a short video in the free plan with an avatar and the Assistant. Note what felt fast and what felt stiff.
2. **Map the portfolio.** Write one line each for Studio, interactive avatars, Roleplay Sessions, and the API. Name the buyer and the job each one does.
3. **Write the top line.** Draft one sentence that holds all four. Test it against the mission, which is helping people work better by changing how organizations train, onboard, and upskill.
4. **Stress-test it against HeyGen.** List three places a rival could claim the same story. For each, write the proof Synthesia has that the rival can't match.
5. **Pick one launch.** Choose the October managed version of the Interactive Avatar API, and sketch the audience, the message, and the first three assets.

Tailor the depth to your role. For the API seat, add a quickstart walkthrough written for a developer. For the head of product marketing seat, add how you would split the five PMMs across the portfolio. Check the result against the [rubric](https://mokk.ai/pmm-rubric).

## Questions to ask your Synthesia interviewers

- How much of new revenue comes from interactive products today, and how fast does leadership expect that to change?
- Which buyer owns interactive avatars inside a customer, learning and development, sales enablement, or someone new?
- How are the five PMMs split today, and what gap is this hire meant to fill?
- Where do you lose deals to HeyGen, and does that change the positioning or only the enablement?
- How does the market intelligence team share work with product marketing?
- How is the work split between London and New York, now that half of revenue is in the US?

## Where people get stuck in a Synthesia loop

- **Selling video when the company is selling conversation.** Synthesia is rebuilding product marketing because of interactive avatars and the API, so answers that only cover training videos miss the reason for the hire.
- **Treating trust as a compliance slide.** Consent, labeling, and certifications are part of why enterprises choose Synthesia. Work them into the story.
- **Waiting for perfect.** Synthesia expects work shipped at 60 to 70 percent, and long, polished answers with no decision can read as the wrong pace.
- **Talking about agents without having built one.** Synthesia's product marketing leadership expects hands-on agent work, so if you haven't built one, build something small before the loop.

## Frequently asked questions

**Does Synthesia hire product marketers remotely?** Synthesia says it hires in more than 26 countries and offers remote work in some cases. Ask the recruiter on the first call whether your role could be remote.

**How many rounds is the Synthesia PMM interview?** Synthesia doesn't publish its interview stages, and detailed reports for marketing roles are hard to find. Ask your recruiter for the list of rounds and whether there is a presentation or written exercise.

**What does Synthesia do?** Synthesia makes AI video software for businesses. Its studio turns scripts into videos with AI avatars, and in 2026 it added interactive avatars, Roleplay Sessions for practice conversations, and an API for building avatars into other products. It says more than 90 percent of the Fortune 100 are customers.

**Who are Synthesia's competitors?** HeyGen is the rival Synthesia compares itself with most directly, on its own website. Synthesia positions itself on enterprise security, brand governance, and support, and casts HeyGen as a tool for individual creators. Expect interview questions about where that contrast holds and where it doesn't.

**What does a Synthesia product marketing manager earn?** Synthesia doesn't publish pay for its PMM roles. Ask the recruiter for the range on the first call, and ask whether it differs by location.
