Why interviewers ask it
Interviewers want proof that your work affects revenue and that you can measure it honestly. The strongest answers connect a specific problem to a specific asset and a believable result.
It scores mainly on analytical rigor and cross-functional influence. On the rubric, a Strong answer on analytical rigor builds arguments from evidence and is explicit about what it does and doesn’t support.
How to structure your answer
- Describe the problem. The pattern in deals that you noticed and how you found it.
- Explain what you built. The asset or training and why you designed it that way.
- Show how you drove use. How reps learned and adopted it.
- Measure the effect. The change in win rate and how you isolated it.
- Be honest about limits. What else might have contributed.
What a strong answer sounds like
The details below are made up. Swap in your own story and figures.
“In listening to lost deals I noticed that reps lost to one competitor when buyers asked about security certifications. I wrote a one-page comparison with two reps and a short practice session for the team. I asked reps to tag deals where they used it. Win rate against that competitor rose from twenty-eight to thirty-seven percent over two quarters in deals that used the page, while deals that didn’t stayed flat. I would not claim the whole change came from the page, since a pricing change happened in the same quarter, but the comparison suggested it helped. We added a security section to the standard pitch afterward.”
What a weak answer sounds like
“I created a new pitch deck for the sales team and trained them on it. After that, our win rate went up and the team said the deck was helpful.”
The weak answer claims credit without showing a problem, a comparison, or the limits of the claim. Describe how you isolated the effect and acknowledge what else changed.
